Musical Instrument Catalogue Design: A Symphony of Offers
Project Overview
One of my duties in my first full-time position away from the design world after an eight-year stint running my own e-commerce business was providing integral design support for the annual printed catalogue as the in-house designer for Chamberlain Music.
I was given two tasks for the catalogue each year. The first was to design and artwork all ‘enhanced listings’ — these were designed to promote certain product lines that fell outside the standard product listings pages. Enhanced listings needed to stand out from the regular listings so I often employed display typefaces and themed imagery or page background colours and graphics to help draw the reader’s eye.
The second task was to provide design and artwork for the two different covers aimed at the two customer types — standard retail and educational customers. Previous catalogue covers had employed a fairly muted design style so I was keen to make the covers work harder by using them to showcase new and important product lines.
