Kickstarter Video Production: Creative Prompt Cards
Project Overview
For this project, my brother was the client, seeking assistance with promoting his latest Kickstarter endeavour.
Although his Kickstarter project included the work of an accomplished illustrator, budget, timescale, and the illustrator’s prior commitments meant we couldn’t commission him for involvement with the promo video.
This presented a perfect opportunity for me to explore the capabilities of generative AI in a real-world project.
The client provided an outline and rough script for the video, and I collaborated with a well-known LLM to help develop and refine the script. While I incorporated some direct suggestions from the AI, I primarily used its output as a foundation, editing and refining its output to fit the project's vibe while expanding on the client’s original idea.
With the script written and approved, I returned to AI for help and used a popular generative AI model to produce a series of fantasy-style illustrations to bring the story to life.
Generative AI is a divisive technology, but this project offered a practical scenario to assess its usefulness. The Kickstarter wasn't a profit-driven venture, and I wasn't being paid for my work — it was a favour for my brother. While I've hired freelance illustrators for past projects, the lack of budget for this one made AI a valuable tool to produce a compelling video without compromising on quality.
With the client providing a voice-over and explanatory 'to-camera' segment using the script, I produced the final video, incorporating the AI-generated images and setting it to an appropriate musical soundtrack.
The Kickstarter project was successfully funded. 😊
