Project Overview

A community energy consultant approached me to design a logo and visual identity on behalf of their client, knowing the importance that a strong and visually consistent brand identity can bring to an organisation looking to gather the support and financial involvement of their local community.

The discovery phase of the project, conducted with the main stakeholders of the project, revealed possible themes for the logo to explore and avoid. After my design exploration phase I presented the visual identity to the stakeholders. At the centre of the identity is the logo that combines the themes of solar energy, the hills of the dales and the Common Rock Rose — a flower that’s in wide abundance in the Derbyshire countryside. The logotype is set in a friendly, non-corporate typeface that suggests ideas of rural signage.

The identity and logo were enthusiastically received and unanimously approved by all stakeholders. For the final phase of the project, a brand asset kit featuring logo variations, licensed typefaces and a brand identity guide was produced and delivered to the community energy team.

“Just had a wonderful logo and brand created for us by Colin. He interpreted the brief in a very creative fashion, and we are very pleased with the result.”
